The paradox of courage is that a man must be a little careless of his life in order to keep it.
Great quote. When I think of courage, I think of Joshua 1:8-9.
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. (ESV)
It’s so tough to remain courageous in life. Sometimes it’s easier to just give in. At least it is for me. There are fighters and there are flighters. But I think we all fight for some things and fly from some. Weirdly enough there are some things we all deeply believe in but we get to the point where we just want to give in and give up that which we are so passionate about and never thought we’d want to toss aside.
I think that’s where the quote above comes in. Maybe we don’t have courage because we take our lives too seriously and don’t realize that we are God’s and need to live like He’s in control and will protect us if He wills it. I think I’m not so courageous because I think I’m responsible for more than I actually am. This doesn’t mean you throw away the responsibility of caring for your life, but maybe it means we ought not to live in fear like verse 9 says.
Oh how I hope to have courage and be part of a community of others who also do.
